The Beach Houses

Are pets allowed at the beach houses?
No, unfortunately we do not allow pets at the houses.

How many guests are allowed at the houses?
Check the information section on this website for the individual beach house to confirm the maximum amount of guests each property can accommodate. You can also find this information in our rundown of The Collection.

Can I have a party or wedding at any of the beach houses?
No, sorry, no parties or events allowed.

Are children welcome?
Yes children are welcome at all of our beach houses, hotels and apartments.

What do I need to bring?
Clothes and groceries. All linen and toiletries are provided.

How often is the housekeeping service?
Once every seven days there is a complimentary service including full linen change. All houses have washing machines and dryers. We can arrange more services, daily if needed, at an additional charge.

Which houses have a pool and/or spa?
Rockridge and Byron Bay Villa each have a pool and spa. Thirty-One Degrees and Ocean Muse each have a pool. BH2 One Mile Ridge is part of a complex which has a shared pool.

Which houses have a fireplace?
Rockridge, Serendip, Byron Bay Villa, Ocean Muse, BH2 One Mile Ridge and Wombarra Beach House.

What are the rates?

When do I make payment?
You need to make full pre-payment to have your booking confirmed.

What if I need to cancel or make a date change?
It depends on the season. Our policy is as follows:
During low season cancellations outside of 30 days receive a full refund, less $150 administration fee. Date changes cannot be made once inside the 30-day period.
During high season cancellations outside of 8 weeks prior to arrival to receive a full refund, less $150 administration fee. Date changes cannot be made once inside the 8-week period.

What time is check-in and check-out?
The beach houses have the same times as the hotel, check-in is from 2pm and check out is by 10am.

How do I get the keys?
All of our houses have dedicated caretakers who will meet you upon arrival, supply the keys and make you familiar with the house and the area.

Bedarra Island Villa & Studio

Can I visit any restaurants on Bedarra Island?
No, you need to self cater. There is a resort on Bedarra Island that has a restaurant but it's only available for their guests. Conversely, Resort guests are not permitted to travel to your area of the island. This ensures privacy and deters day trippers.

Can I visit Dunk Island Resort?
Dunk Island Resort permits visitors during the day only. Travel is by boat and details are provided at the time of your booking.

Is it possible to do a reef tour from Bedarra Island?
Yes, this can be co-ordinated through Dunk Island Resort. Our caretakers can assist you with this also.

How do you get to Bedarra Island?
Detailed directions on how to get to the island will be provided at the time of booking.
The popular option is to fly to Cairns Airport and take a small aircraft flight for 15 minutes to Dunk Island. From there catch a 15-minute boat ride on the 'Beachcomber' fast cat to Doorila Bay (East Bedarra Island).
Alternatively you can hire a car from Cairns and take a scenic two-hour drive to Mission Beach, catch the water taxi to Dunk Island and then the 'Beachcomber' to East Bedarra.
High flyers can charter a helicopter from Cairns Airport to drop you on the beach at Bedarra Island.

Can I have a boat there?
There are no mooring facilities so a boat would require anchoring at your own risk and also the permission of other owners (Body Corporate).

Is there mobile phone reception?
You will need to take a short walk to the western side of the island where reception is available from most providers (note: Vodafone reception is not always reliable).

Is there a TV/ DVD player/cable/telephone?
Yes we have a television in both the studio and villa and each has a DVD player and receives Austar. There is also a telephone in both the Villa and Studio.

Are there any shops on Bedarra Island?
There aren't shops on the island, all groceries and produce need to be ordered at least two weeks prior to your arrival. Alternatively, for those getting to Bedarra by driving to Mission Beach, there is shopping at the Wongaling end of the beach (where the water taxi departs to take you to the island). Everything you need is here at Wongaling Beach. Shopping comes over by boat with you and our caretakers will be waiting on the beach in front of the house to help you.

Is there a hairdryer in the Villa or Studio?
No. Both houses are powered by environmentally friendly solar panels and a back-up generator. High voltage appliances need to be left at home.

What activities can I do on the island?
There is a common area joining all properties and a beautiful lookout - plus two beaches. We have kayaks, snorkelling equipment and basic fishing gear (experts bring your own). Swimming on Bedarra is heavenly!

How far away is the Studio from the Villa?
The Studio and Villa are steps from the beach and are about 20 metres from each other. However they are both quite private in themselves as they're separated from each other by palm trees and a bamboo fence.

Will there be other people on the island?
We have our caretakers to assist you while you are there but you will very rarely see other owners as the Villa and Studio are on a 1.5 acre property.

How far is the closest beach?
Fortunately the Villa and Studio are on the most beautiful beach known as Doorilla Bay. The second beach is only 200 metres away across the island and is great for snorkelling. Both beaches are utilised by a few property owners but it is rare to see anyone else on the beaches.

How many guests does the Villa and Studio hold?
The Villa is the main house and it has 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds. The Studio is a separate pavilion and is much more of a rustic affair – there is a day bed in the living area and one bedroom with a king sized bed.

Can I book the Studio only?
The Studio is most commonly used when Villa guests need extra accommodation, say for a group of 6 or so. Reservations are accepted for the studio only.

Will there be another group in the Studio if I book the Villa?
No. We will not book out the Studio to another party during your stay in the Villa.

Do I need travel insurance?
Yes we highly recommend you that take out travel insurance.

Are there 'stingers' on Bedarra Island?
Stinger season is from November to April each year. Stingers hug the mainland shores as the water out to the Islands is often too deep and cold for the stingers. As yet, there has not been any stings on Bedarra Island.

When is the best time of the year to go to Far North Queensland?
Australian Winter (May to November) is the best time to be in sunny Far North Queensland, however it is warm all year round

Medusa Hotel and Apartment One

Is Medusa suitable for families?
We have king and queen sized beds available for our rooms. We don't have any twin rooms or interconnecting rooms available. Rollaway and cots my be hired in the Grand Rooms only (rack rates apply). A maximum of two people are permitted per room.

Is there a pool or a gym?
Although we don't have a pool or gym in the hotel, our guests can use local facilities on a complimentary basis. We have guests passes to swim at Cook and Phillip Pool or you can workout at our current chosen local gym.

Does the hotel have a restaurant?
We don't have a restaurant but we are right in the heart of Sydney's café, restaurant and bar precinct and there are dozens of choices. The front desk staff can help you find what's right for you.

Does Medusa offer room service?
If you feel like eating in we can arrange delivery from some of the great restaurants in the area.

What about parking?
There is no in-house parking at the hotel, but there is plenty of street parking in the area. There is also a secure parking facility just 50 metres from the hotel.

Can I bring my pet?
Dogs are allowed at Medusa Hotel and Apartment One only.

Can I have a party?
No, sorry, no parties or events allowed.

Can I connect to the internet from my room?
Yes all hotel rooms have wireless internet connection for a nominal fee. If you don't bring your own computer, there is a business room in the hotel so you access your emails (charges apply for extensive use).

Are there business facilities?
Yes, we have a small business room within the hotel which you can book if required. Charges apply.

Is there tea and coffee making facilities in the room?
Yes. All rooms have kitchenettes which also include a microwave oven. There is also a well-stocked mini bar.

Do all rooms have a window that opens?
Yes.

Is a bath available in the rooms?
Many of our rooms have a bath but not all. If you'd like a bath just let us know at the time of your booking. We will do our best to accommodate you however this is not guaranteed.

Are there any laundry facilities at the hotel?
No but we do offer a laundry service.

Do you offer corporate rates or long stay rates?

Is reception at the hotel available 24 hours a day?
Yes absolutely.

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am.

Is late check-out available?
Noon check-out is subject to availability on the day.

When is high season in Italy?
High season is from May to October.

Is there a minimum night stay?
There is a 7 night minimum stay and it must be from Saturday to Saturday.

What are the starting rates?
For one bedroom apartments with a double sofa bed (4 guests maximum) rates start from approximately EUR1700+ per week.
For Villas (i.e. freestanding houses) with 4 bedrooms, rates start from approximately EUR6500+ per week.

Villa Sungai Bali

How many guests are allowed at the villa?
6 adults plus babies and children
The couples residence can be taken in conjunction to give 2 extra bedrooms...this can be described after enquiry.

Can I have a party or wedding at any of the beach houses?
Absolutely. SUNGAI hosts many intimate weddings and the couples residence SUNGAI GOLD can be taken in conjunction for extra guests. The villa can seat 24 for a sit-down reception and 50+ for a cocktail reception.

Are children welcome?
The villa caters extensively for babies and children incl a fun drinks and food menu. A list of provisions will be sent on enquiry. It includes Australian car seats and strollers to reduce gear to be travelling with. Even nappies, formula, wipes, etc can be ordered in in advance of your arrival. Pool toys, mini gym, easels, books and colouring books/pencils, bikes and DVDs are also provided.

What do I need to bring?
A sarong! (Although they also are provided...) This is a luxury 5 star property with all meals and bar also provided. The 9 staff include chefs, dining and bar staff, rooms and grounds staff plus there are the drivers and spa therapists.

How often is the housekeeping service?
Twice daily room service including turn down of an evening.

Does the villa have a pool and/or spa?
SUNGAI has a 17m signature pool that drops to the river below. It has a cocktail and children's ledge.
There is an in-house spa facility with highly professional therapists.

When do I make payment?
You need to make full pre-payment to have your booking confirmed.

What if I need to cancel or make a date change?
It depends on the season. Our policy is as follows:
Deposits and final payments are non-refundable, however, bookings can be moved out to anywhere within 12 months of the original booking dates, subject only to availability (prices will change if there is a change of season). One change of dates allowed only and if within 8 weeks of check-in a 50% penalty will apply (75% for peak period bookings).

What time is check-in and check-out?
11am check-out and 2pm check-in. In reality guests will be met at the airport by the villa manager and be delivered directly to the villa for check-in.

Is there mobile phone reception?
Yes

Is there a TV/ DVD player/cable?
Yes we have a television and DVD player in the SUNGAI SUITE..not in the other 2 bedrooms or common areas as most guests are trying to get away from television.

Is there internet access?
Yes with an inexpensive voucher system. The manager will help you connect.

Is there a hairdryer and magnified make-up mirror in the Villa?
yes, salon quality hairdryers and 5x mirrors.

What activities can I do on the island?
A vast array..you will be sent recommendations at enquiry time.

Will there be other people at the villa if I only take one or two rooms?
Absolutely not..you have exclusivity from 1-3 guest rooms.

How far is the closest beach?
10 minutes

Can I book one room only?
Yes...at a discounted rate.

Do I need travel insurance?
Yes we highly recommend you that take out travel insurance.

When is the best time of the year to go to Bali?
April-October incl is the dry season but Christmas and January is huge in Bali too. The wet season is also lovely and sees rain mainly overnight.

Is SUNGAI suitable for families?
We have 2m x 2m canopied king beds and king single beds in all three rooms. We don't have interconnecting rooms available, however, the roms are all beside each other and monitors work well for little children. Rollaway and cots are provided FOC. There is an extra charge for > 6 adults.

Does the villa have a restaurant?
Dining and bar are features of the SUNGAI villa experience. Breakfast and canapés are included FOC and other meals at cost of ingredients only. The chefs shop daily for all food as the feature is freshness and premium ingredients. The bar is offered at wholesale prices and BYO spirits are welcomed.

Can I have a party?
Yes...just discuss your needs at enquiry. The best caterers, entertainment, florists, etc can be arranged for you.

Is there tea and coffee available all day?
Yes. The staff will produce the premium Nespresso specialty coffees and imported teas 24hrs on a complimentary basis. (There is 24hr staffing)

Is a bath available?
Yes in the SUNGAI SUITE. It is a double European bath. There are 2 showers and double European basins.

Are there any laundry facilities at the villa?
The staff provide same day service FOC.

Do you offer corporate rates or long stay rates?

Yes of course. Please discuss this at enquiry. We have bookings up to 3 months and many European bookings for 4-6 weeks for their summer.
Anything > 14 nights fits into the long stay category.

Is reception at the hotel available 24 hours a day?
Yes absolutely.. However, guests are always met by the manager at either the airport or another property and dropped back there so there is no need for walk-ins and it is in fact not possible. All bookings need to be done in advance as the villa is usually booked.

Is late check-out available?
Yes if there is no new check-in on that day, however, if available at the time of booking a late check-out can be guaranteed by payment of 50% of the published daily rate.

Do rates include taxes?
No..15% govt and service taxes are explained in the rates section of the villa description on this website.

Is there a minimum night stay?
Yes...3 for low season, 5 for high season, 7 for Easter and 12 for Christmas.

How are bookings made?
Pip from Contemporary passes your enquiry to the villa owner who will handle all facets of your enquiry and planning prior to arrival at the airport. At this point you are met by the villa manager MADE who will become your concierge/PA for the entire stay which will help you achieve everything you wish to fit into your stay. He can also make any bookings that haven’t been done pre-arrival. The owner is also contactable at all times either via email or text or phone. She lives in Australia.
